My Eyebrow Journey

I remember the first time I had my eyebrows plucked. I had these big, thick blonde eyebrows and noticed the other girls at school were getting theirs “done” which left me feeling childish and behind the curve. I came home to my mom and asked her to pluck mine like she did hers. I immediately regretted my decision when she plucked the first bunch - yes I said bunch - because I screamed and looked down at the clump of hairs she pulled out all at once. It hurt so bad, but beauty is pain, right?

I showed up at school the next day with much thinner brows. Did anyone notice? I don’t remember. Sixth grade was a lot for me. I went from dressing like a boy with oversized jeans and t-shirts, wild wavy hair, and zero cares in the world to buying my first padded bra, shaving my legs, and wearing makeup seemingly overnight. I took notice of the girls the boys were crushing on and I wanted to be them, instead of “one of the boys.”

Eyebrow Care Routine

For the rest of my life, my eyebrows have been an important part of my beauty and self-care routine. They have been shaved, plucked, waxed, threaded, tinted, laminated, filled in, and whatever else. When I am feeling a bit uglier than usual I notice my eyebrows could use a clean up. When they are freshly shaped and filled in I feel prettier. How I’ve gotten into the routine of spending $150 each month to maintain the caterpillars on my face is beyond me, but here we are! I have them threaded, laminated, and tinted.

It’s crazy what a difference this makes for my face. I wake up and look in the mirror and feel fundamentally different than I do with my natural blonde eyebrows. The way they contour my face is nice. With that being said, talking to you about eyebrows feels right. As trends change and I test new products and methods, I’ll happily share my findings with you here in my little corner of the internet.
